Oooh at last I have a guilty half hour to spend at the Blog!!
I’m an African living in a beautiful city that’s the size of a small town. I’m lucky enough to be able to walk Charlie Basset up the High street into the Market place through the ‘Bishop’s Eye’, an ancient archway, through to the Bishop’s Palace which is surrounded by a moat. Most days I take this lovely place for granted, and then I have visitors from Australia and give them the Wow-factor tour and their reactions remind how lucky I am.
I was born in Malawi which was known as Nyasaland back then, but was lucky enough to live all over Zimbabwe in most of the beauty spots and rugged bush areas for the first 47 years of my life. My parents were British and came back to England in the 80s and luckily for me settled here in Wells.
Today is Market day and a great opportunity to show off in front of the visitors by greeting at least one stall-holder by name to buy fresh eggs and broken dog biscuits and most importantly enjoy the banter! The ‘town’ is packed and the pavements too busy to walk Charlie up there but because I was doing the church banking just before the bank closed, I couldn’t believe my luck to get a parking in the High street! I’m sure it was organised by the Big Man himself!
This week the elastic finally went in my Ancient Pyjamas! I wondered if it was an omen, as it felt like I would never get a chance to revisit the Blog! My children, 33 and 30 are groaning…’Mother when are you going to have time for this – you have more important stuff to do’.
Of course I do – I’m self-employed – no work no money! I have SO many hobbies – sewing, water-colour painting, furniture making-over, jewellery making… you name it! A treat at the weekend, if I’m not working towards a deadline, is a bit of crochet in front of Netflix!
Right, my precious half-hour is up, so I’ll end by saying that I’m planning to write about my travels in 2015 to Australia and on a cruise to the Fjords next ….
